Windows 10 Sound Problems

I have a newer PC - HP Envy with Intel CORE i7 processor -- and decided to take the free Windows 10 upgrade.

Overall -- happy with it -- except for one issue -- THE SOUND.

  1. Sound problems can be caused by cables that aren't connected properly, damaged drivers, incompatible drivers, sound settings, missing updates, and problems with your sound card. I request you to follow the below steps: Step 1: Uninstall the Sound card Drivers. Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard.
  2. For help fixing audio or sound problems, try the audio troubleshooter. It might be able to fix audio problems automatically. To run the troubleshooter: select the Start button, type audio troubleshooter in the search box, select Find and fix problems with playing sound from the list of results, and then select Next.

Many Windows 10 users are often found to be struggling with sound problems. Here, I'm going to tell you how to fix the same using some simple steps. You can start by choosing the correct default.

Windows

Everytime I start to use the PC -- the sound does not work -- as in NO SOUND. To fix it -- I've learned to do the following:

Bring up device manager - Select the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC, Right Click -> Update driver; Select Browse my computer for driver software; Then select -> Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

At this point -- I select the 'other Model -> High Definition Audio Device (even though IDT High Definition Audio CODEC is listed here) -> then select Next at bottom of window. Message pops up 'Installing this device driver is not recommended....'; select Yes here. Then Close window. This does not fix the problem, but now I set it back to the other...

Same thing... from Device Manager, select Sound, right click on -> High Definition Audio Device, then Update Device Driver;

Then select Browse my computer for driver software -> then, Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. Now I select IDT High Definition Audio CODEC, then click Next. And Close on the following window when it has completed. This fixes / enables my sound! But only for a short time.... or until the PC goes to sleep -- upon wake, or Restart, I have to go through above procedure.

Windows 10 Sound Not Working

What is going on? Why doesn't this change 'stick' across a sleep / wake, or restart?? This is very frustrating -- I'm ready to buy a different PC that doesn't run Windows. But I can't even sell this on with no Sound -- I'd prefer to keep it, but -- the sound / NO Sound issue is very annoying.
